Solar grants are real money — but the process has steps, paperwork, and deadlines worth getting right.
Your installer handles most of it. Our role is to sit on your side of the table: confirm what's actually required by SEAI versus what you're being asked to sign, check the application is right, and make sure the deadline doesn't slip.

From BER to post-works sign-off, here is what actually happens when you claim a SEAI grant.
SEAI needs a current BER (Building Energy Rating) before any grant. If yours is expired, get a new one. The BER tells you what your house needs first — insulation before a heat pump, for example.
Only SEAI-registered contractors can apply for the grant on your behalf. Your installer files the paperwork. You do not need to pay upfront and claim back — the grant is deducted from your invoice.
Your installer submits the application to SEAI. You sign the paperwork they provide. Make sure you understand what you are signing — we can review it with you.
Once SEAI approves the application, the installer carries out the work. They will handle building control notices if required. You pay the installer the reduced amount (full cost minus grant).
A follow-up BER is required to confirm improvement. SEAI pays the grant directly to the installer. You receive a revised BER certificate showing your improved rating.
Key thing to remember: You do not pay the full cost and claim back later. The grant is deducted from your invoice before you pay. Your installer claims it from SEAI.
These are the mistakes we see most often. They are all avoidable with the right advice.
You need a valid BER before work starts. SEAI will reject applications without one. Get it early — it also tells you the right order of works.
Only SEAI-registered contractors can claim grants. Always check the SEAI register before signing. We vet every installer in our network.
Heat pumps need insulation first. Solar works best with a modern heating system. The BER tells you the priority — follow it or you may lose grant access.
Grants have deadlines. If your application lapses, you reapply from scratch. We track deadlines so nothing slips.
